Privacy Policy

How AfriVote collects, uses, and protects your information.

Last updated: August 2026

1. Information we collect

When you create an account, we collect basic identity details such as your name, email address, and phone number. When you participate in an election, event, or campaign hosted through AfriVote, we also process the records needed to run that activity — for example your vote (recorded in a way designed to preserve ballot integrity), ticket purchases, and campaign contributions.

2. How we use your information

We use your information to operate your account, authenticate you, run elections and events on behalf of the organizations you interact with, process payments through our payment partners, send you transactional notifications, and detect fraud or abuse of the platform.

3. Vote confidentiality

AfriVote is built so that organizations running an election can verify turnout and results without being able to trivially link an individual voter to their specific choice, in line with standard ballot-secrecy practices. Technical safeguards around this are described in more detail in our Security overview.

4. Sharing of information

We do not sell personal data. We share information with the organization running a given election, event, or campaign to the extent needed for them to administer it (for example, an org admin can see who registered for their event), and with service providers who help us operate the platform (hosting, payments, email delivery), under contractual confidentiality obligations.

5. Cookies & analytics

We use a small number of cookies to keep you signed in and to understand how AfriVote is used, so we can improve it — for example, which pages get the most traffic. We use Google Analytics for this; it does not receive your name, email, or any content of what you vote for or donate to.

On your first visit, a banner lets you accept or decline non-essential analytics cookies. Declining still lets you use the full platform — it just means we don't load Google Analytics for your session. You can change your choice at any time by clearing your browser's site data for afrivote.africa.

6. Data retention

We retain account and activity data for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterward as required for legal, audit, or dispute-resolution purposes. You can request deletion of your account as described below.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you're located, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details on our Contact page.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through the platform or by email before they take effect.

This page provides a general summary of our data practices and is not a substitute for formal legal advice specific to your jurisdiction.
